Usually, people tend to be dissatisfied and never content with the things they have. As the saying goes, the grass always seems greener on the other side. And a huge example is the hair texture. Girls who have straight hair, wish they had curls/waves and some volume and vice versa, girls with black hair want a change and color them brown, girls who have short hair desire longer and luscious locks and so on. In addition, even after being completely aware of the negative effects the strengthening does to their hair, a lot of girls still resort to doing it regularly.
Since the old habits die hard, we decided to get some effective tips for the above stylish category of girls to keep the volume, moisture and softness of their hair intact even after regular straightening.
#1. APPLY HAIR PROTECTANTS
Before you start straightening your hair, make sure you use a good quality hair protectant, some serum or moisturizing agent on the hair. This is going to help reduce the damage that the heat could cause to your hair.
#2. DON’T USE HEATING RODS ON WET HAIR
If you use straightening rods on totally wet hair your hair will become extremely rough, frizzy and in some cases, it could burn them too. Thus, dry your hair on a fan or just blow dry it a bit before straightening. Make sure that it’s just 20-25% wet when you do so.
#3. USE GENEROUS AMOUNTS OF HAIR CARE SERUMS
After straightening the hair, use a bit of hair serum or hair softener to lessen the effect of all the heat generated by the hair straighteners. This is done since many a times, the temperature of these devices could go up to a 150-180 degrees Celsius and that definitely isn’t good news for your hair.
#4. OILS TO THE RESCUE
Massage the hair with oil (coconut, olive or alma– whichever suits your hair type) at least two times a week. For better results, after you put oil on your hair, wrap it with a hot towel for around 5- 10 minutes. Wash the hair thoroughly after once hour.
#5. MAKE HOME MADE HAIR PACKS AND TREATMENTS
Homemade hair masks are very beneficial for the scalp and they help in improving the hair quality. Apricots, egg white, honey, curd, oats, aloe Vera etc. are very good natural ingredients to make these packs, and you can find many different recipes online, with ingredients that best suits your hair type.
#6. HAIR SPAS
Sometimes, just oiling your hair is not enough to reverse the damage that is caused by exposing the hair to constant and high levels of heat. Hair spas on the other hand can be very effective. The application of hair repair serums as well as doing head massages and steam are the best pampering that you can give to your hair.
#7. REGULAR TRIMMINGS
Whether it is a myth or not, there are lots of people and hair dressers who believe that split ends make the quality of the hair worse by the day and also stand in the way of hair growth. Regular interactions of your hair with chemicals and high heat is causing split ends which is why you have to get trimmings done every once in a while.
#8. PROPER CONDITIONING
You should not just be using good quality shampoo and conditioner frequently, you also need to put leave-in conditioner onto your hair which should be applied after washing the hair.
#9. TRY TO SHORTEN THE GAPS BETWEEN STRAIGHTENING
When you are straightening your hair, try not to wash it very often. You can use dry shampoos if you need the straightening to stay longer without washing. This is going to lessen the heat effect on the hair on very regular basis.
So, everything you need to do is to give your hair some extra tender love and care by just following these simple rules and you can help it stay silkier and softer. And apart from all this, you should try to lessen the use of harsh chemicals and heat treatments on your hair as much as you can.
You are beautiful as you are; all you should do is to embrace that fact!
